Chini Kwa Chini is the second single off the Project Purple EP.
It's a song about living fully in the present moment because all we really ever have is today. We have the choice to embrace it fully, let loose and have a little fun.
The Project Purple EP is an hommage to the pioneers of the Kenyan Pop Music Industry and it plays around with the sounds of Kapuka, Genge and Hip Hop. It's inspired by artists such as Amani, Nameless, Wahu, Wyre, Kalamashaka, Swahili Nation, K-South, Ukoo Fulani Mau Mau, Necessary Noise, Ogopa DJays and Calif Records to name but a few.
I wanted to celebrate them with this EP and make music inspired by that era in Kenyan Pop Music. They were the Kenyan acts I was looking up to as I was coming up, day dreaming and scheming in High School. The Project Purple Ep is my interpretation of their sounds.
I'd like to dedicate this specific track to E-Sir, an artist who inspired so many of us. We celebrate what you did and we miss you. Your music lives on and you're forever in our hearts.
Leo ni leo, asemaye kesho ni mwongo......
E-Sir's life and legacy remind me that I don't know how much time I really have here and I have to give my all. So here's some music to sing along to and dance to today. All we have is today and we thank God for it. Now learn the dance moves and let's get down together.
