Ahwash n Tiferkhin: Female empowerment music from Morocco

LOCATION : Adkhs n Irfaln, Tata Province
Ahwash n Tfrkhin is a collective performance group from southern Morocco where the women are in charge. Ahwash n Tfrkhin is subgenre of Ahwash where unmarried women are participate ( Tifrkhin means “girls” in Amazigh). The musicians are male and the singers female. The songs are in Amazigh and usually repeat a single poetic verse. This type of music and dance is usually performed at various celebrations in the community.
