South African Music - Part 1: An Introduction

This episode of Ethnomusicology Explained! is a little different. In memory of the late Nelson Rolihlahla Madela, this is part one of a video series dedicated to South African music from 1900-2000. We look at how the first roots of the South African music we know today were formed at the turn of the 20th century, discussing musical hybridity, gospel, and isicathamiya.
