Adesope Olajide aka Shopsy in conversation with DJ Maphorisa, giving insight into growing up in Pretoria, South Africa. They talk about the success of Maphorisa co-headlining across the UK and having the first black sold-out show at the Ministry of Sound in London in nearly a decade. They discuss the session set up by Pie Radio where Maphorisa met young creatives who played music to him and gained his advice. Maphorisa says it’s important to him to share the amapiano sound and continue the legacy. Maphorisa answers questions from the audience; how to maintain and cultivate work relationships as a producer, giving an example of Kabza De Small. He answers what’s the difference between the sounds of amapiano, gqom and kwaito and why amapiano has reached new heights. Maphorisa recommends artists to look out for including MDU aka TRP. Shopsy speaks on the passing of African artists Hip Hop Pantsula and Riky Rick and Maphorisa shares his reaction, suggesting in these times we need to talk to and take care of each other. He gives advice on marketing amapiano and for young people in the music industry to keep pushing the sound.
