In this interview of Pass The Mic we take a quick flight to Nigeria to learn more about cruise and mara beats of the streets. We're joined by DJ Khalipha who shares his experience of moving from Afrobeats to electronic music, inspiration from meditative sounds and turning a dream of computer science that moved to business administration into an opportunity and how to always stay ahead of the game.
About DJ Khalipha:
Lawal Habeeb Kola (born 23rd March1999), known professionally as DJ Khalipha is a Nigerian disc jockey, beat maker, graphic designer and music promoter. Dj Khalipha broke into the mixtape on the Audiomack music platform in 2020. He has since gained prominence as a DJ in Nigeria and has released songs with many Nigerian music artist.
DJ Khalipha started his career as a music promoter and blogger but later picked interest in being a Disc Jockey. He started his journey as a DJ in 2020, he came into limelight after his "Best of Naira Marley" mixtape broke into the music platform on Audiomack. He has so far released over 20 online Mixtapes and released multiple songs and visuals with Nigerian and African artists.
Khalipha released his debut single in 2021 titled "Gbewa lo" featuring Sodma, Atom and Yung fella. He also had the opportunity for Pocolee to hop on his beat remix titled "Obirin" which also featured Daprincez and Sunnkeysnoopy and other Nigerian artists .
He is known as the innovator of various beats which includes gbese ,groove riddim , "ahh" beat , Mara pass, Mara dance beat and many more!
