Chaminuka ndiMambo means Chaminuka is the king. He is king in the spiritual culture of Zimbabwe. Chaminuka ndiBaba - he is like a father to Zimbabwean tribes, directing them in the way of the Lord. Chaminuka iMhondoro - Chaminuka is the Lion spirit of Zimbabwe. He has done miracles which make people want to follow in his ways.
He could see war before it came, so he knew how to hide away from his enemies.
Chaminuka's miracles include bringing rain to Zimbabweans. He used to gather people for important ceremonies, to pray for rain. They could plough and grow good food and there was no hunger.
Chaminuka was an Mbira player and moved with a group of Mbira players, including Ngoma (drumming), hosho (shakers) and dancing, especially during ceremonies and praying times.
As a healer, Chaminuka encouraged people to cleanse and eat good herbs. He encouraged people pray to Mwari, the spirit of rain, and to the creator of the earth.
Chaminuka prophesied his own death and left his belongings with Seke (Nyashanu's son) before he was killed. Other things he prophesied before his death also came true.
At the time of his death, he refused to be killed by elders, people with sins, so he told the leaders of his enemies to send a small boy, someone who had never sinned, and it was only this innocent boy who could kill Chaminuka with a spear.
The last Chaminuka lived in Chitungwiza. Here he did many miracles and great spiritual work for the Lord. People used to travel to see him, to attend his ceremonies, to seek healing and wisdom.
Hunters wouldn't hunt elephants and other large animals in Chaminuka's territory without asking for permission. However if they did ask respectfully he would allow and even give them advice on how to succeed in their hunting.
During his healing times and ceremonies, Mbira would be played and was well respected. He would do his healing wearing skins of highly respected animals and traditional fabrics.
He encouraged people to brew spiritual beer and hold spiritual ceremonies.
